Thank you to our new AF Partner "Parkway United Church of Christ" for donating at the start of 2011 - the first local Affirming Faith Group to do so.
The Adam Foundation actively seeks the support of "affirming" faith groups in our community. We appreciate and applaud those faith groups that not only provide a welcoming environment for LGBT individuals and their families, but those that also actively work towards more just policies that affect our LGBT community.
In fact, an interfaith effort was established over the years to maintain the AIDS Memorial Garden located in Tanglewood Park which began as a simple Girl Scout project. Some faith groups have held special services and training for their congregations on LGBT rights, while other congregations actually organized efforts to establish new legislation that includes new wording in state policy on school bullying. All faith groups can have such an impact. We can all work together to be sure those needs of the LGBT community are respected and addressed.
AF invites faith groups to support our mission by providing financial support for our grants. Faith groups may also apply for grants that meet our requirements for pertinent projects that impact the local LGBT population while ensuring no "religious recruitment or doctrine" is forced upon individuals during such projects. (See the project below that qualified)
Does your faithgroup take a stand on LGBT Issues ? Do they provide a "welcoming" and affirming atmosphere? Please contact AF to add your faithgroup to our growing list of LGBT affirming congregations in Forsyth County.
Please consider making a secure online donation to AF before leaving our website. . We encourage you to become an AF Partner or an AF event Sponsor as a stronger statement of your faith group's commitment to funding local projects that impact the LGBT members of your congregation.
The new coalition below - in conjuction with PFLAG of WS - is currently providing a series of public forums on issues critical to the local LGBT community throughout the summer/fall of 2011, and the series was funded by a 2011 Adam Foundation grant!
Congratulations!
About Interfaith Voice: Many Traditions. One Voice.
This group of faith communities seeks to be an affirming voice fo the faithful, standing in solidarity with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered & questioning (LGBTQ) persons in our community. Through upcoming educational forums, we will enlighten our community about the civil discrimination being faced by our friends, while also serving as resources to other faith communities now considering how they might become open and affirming. We proudly stand with our LGBTQ friends, & invite others to join us as we seek to create a more welcoming world.
