WHY?
To honor the way AF began: A small group of guys hosted an event to raise emergency funds for their friend, "Adam", who was battling AIDS.
Their event was personal; it was fun; it was effective!
PLUS, AF likes to ramp up the creativity in the "dog days" of summer. Who says the month of August is a "dead" month ? We'll even count ideas that get hatched in AUGUST but do not come to completion until the end of September as qualifying as an "8 in 8" event. And now, an AF "8 in8" event will support a wide range of local LGBT projects through our annual grants...our reach goes beyond HIV/AIDS.
AF helps you in any way you need for your event. We provide PR opportunities, AF display materials, special speakers, video materials.
We can even provide AF "8 in 8" invitations, thank you cards, and envelopes to help you look your best. Just tell us how we can help you get started.
These events can be big or small - public or private -
Pass the hat to friends, match a percentage of sales, or charge admission to strangers.
Host it alone or partner up with a local business.
It all works!
The core idea is to make it personal, funky, and fun while your
friends, co-workers, family, or clients become familiar with AF's mission and accomplishments!
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of WS " Pass the Plate for 8 in 8!" - COMPLETED!!! Longtime supporters of LGBT issues, this congregation did a special Sunday plate collection. RESULTS: The congregation collected over $700 for Adam. That's what we call acting on your "Affirming Faith"! We were deeply grateful, and 3 AF Board members went to UUF on a following Sunday to offer a public "thank you" before the congregation during the service.
Pam & Britta's Garage/Moving Sale - "8 in 8" / COMPLETED!!! Lots of bargains were found in this moving sale. Part of the proceeds was generously donated to AF.
Results = $164 Thanks, gals, for coming up with a NEW "8 in 8" event !
Massage Raffle - "8 in 8" / COMPLETED!!! Trillium Therapeutics hosted a massage raffle for its existing clients. The prize was a 90-minute massage session ( value $80) Funds raised = $510. Thank you to the clients who supported the AF mission while also taking care of themselves.
"I 8te Gelato" Days - "8 in 8" . COMPLETED!!! Sept 18/ Sept 28 Caffe Prada, in co-ordination with Trillium Therapeutics, hosted an "8 in 8" event on each of these days.
$1 donated by Trillium to AF for EVERY gelato purchased. Results: $91 goes to AF.
We have also had art sales, pool parties, people matching a percentage of sales at local bars and restuarants they want to also give a business boost to, and small dinner parties where the host simply passes the hat for donations. Someone organized a Wii tournament for friends only. The possibilities are endless:
